WhatsApp Meta AI tab

Meta is making it easier than ever to access artificial intelligence tools in WhatsApp. With the introduction of a dedicated Meta AI tab means that Android users – who are the first to, gradually, get access to this – will be able to find everything AI-related in one place.

Rather than making interface elements smaller and therefore fiddler to use, Meta has chosen to ditch the Communities tab and replace this with the Meta AI tab.

For now, this is something that is only rolling out to some Android users who are signed up to the WhatsApp beta program, but the speed with which things move forward mean that it probably will not be long before non-beta users are granted access. It is also unlikely to be long before the same feature comes to iOS.

WABetaInfo provides the following description of the feature:

WhatsApp is rolling out a new Meta AI tab as a central hub for AI-powered features on Android. The new tab allows users to quickly access conversations with Meta AI and explore its tools directly from a dedicated section of the interface. To introduce this new tab, WhatsApp has removed the Communities tab from the main interface. However, users can already create and manage community group chats directly from the Chats tab, and filter them through a preset list. The new tab for Meta AI is designed to offer a central hub for all AI-powered features, including messaging with the chatbot, image creation, and voice calling.

The site shares a concept that would give users the ability to customize the tabs that appears in the WhatsApp navigation bar. There is – at the moment, at least – no suggestion that this could actually become a reality, but it remains an interesting idea, nonetheless.

We designed a new concept that introduces a dedicated screen where users can choose which tabs should appear in the navigation bar. However, users would be able to select up to five tabs to display in total. In our concept, the configuration page includes a short description to explain that some essential tabs cannot be removed. Specifically, the Chats, Updates, and Calls tabs are always present because they represent the core features of the application. This feature would allow users to tailor the navigation bar according to their preferences.

Is this something that you would like to see in WhatsApp?
