As organizations race to adopt AI, many struggle with fragmented workflows, inconsistent data, and hidden coordination effort across departments. AI initiatives often stall not because the models fail, but because the underlying processes are not structured to support automation.
With the introduction of its AI Readiness and ROI Assessment Scorecard, GrayCyan provides a benchmarking tool designed to help manufacturing leaders evaluate structural readiness across ERP, MES, and cross-functional operational workflows before investing in AI initiatives.
“This is not a survey about AI enthusiasm,” says Nishkam Batta, founder and CEO at GrayCyan. “It is a structural evaluation of how work actually flows through an organization. AI only delivers results when workflows are enforced, systems are integrated, and governance is disciplined.”
The assessment analyzes 50 structured indicators across administrative coordination, finance and supply chain workflows, sales and service operations, warehouse and production synchronization, engineering and change management, and ERP and system integration. Each question measures workflow enforcement, system depth, data consistency, and governance maturity.
There are also three modeling layers that distinguish this from conventional AI assessments. The Manual Effort Index (MEI) quantifies coordination friction embedded in everyday workflows. The Volume Exposure Index (VEI) measures transaction frequency and operational repetition to identify where inefficiency compounds. Finally the Automation Feasibility Level (AFL) evaluates whether systems integration, data governance, and controls are structurally capable of supporting automation responsibly.
The assessment delivers two independent outputs. The first is an AI Readiness Score, a maturity-based rating that reflects workflow automation discipline, operational system integration, data quality, governance controls, and leadership alignment. The second is a directional ROI Opportunity Estimate focused on administrative and coordination effort, often referred to as the hidden factory.
The AI Readiness and ROI Assessment is now available on the GrayCyan site.
