Apple has acquired MotionVFX, a Polish firm that creates a range of plugins and effects for videos editing software. News of the acquisition came from MotionVFX rather than Apple, and details of the deal are still not known.
What the acquisition indicates, however, is that Apple is clearly looking to boost the capabilities of its own Final Cut Pro software and wants to do so by bringing external talent into its fold.
As things stand at the moment, MotionVFX produces video add-ons for Final Cut Pro and other video editing tools. It also operates on a subscription model. These are both things which are likely to change following the acquisition by Apple.
It seems unlikely that Apple would want to develop plugins and the like for rival products, so it is unclear where this leaves existing customers. Similarly, we do not yet know how Apple will handle the monthly subscription plans that MotionVFX currently has in place.
