The Coalition for a Competitive Mobile Experience Endorses Open App Markets Act

, /PRNewswire/ — The Coalition for a Competitive Mobile Experience (CCME) applauds Sens. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) for their introduction of the Open App Markets Act. This legislation would forbid abusive behavior that has for years constrained competition in the app store, restricted consumer choice, and stopped developers from delivering better experiences for users. Brandon Kressin, Executive Director of CCME, released the following statement:

“CCME applauds the bipartisan group of Senators who have signed on to support the Open App Markets Act for stepping up to protect consumers from this domineering abuse of app developers. For too long app store operators have has been allowed to run roughshod over independent app developers, throttling the user experience, price gouging consumers, and steering users.”

The introduction of the Open App Markets Act follows Rep. Kat Cammack’s introduction of the App Store Freedom Act, which would promote competition and consumer choice in app stores. Earlier this year, a U.S. Federal District Court ruling required Apple to stop imposing fees on in-app purchases made through web links.

The Coalition for a Competitive Mobile Experience (CCME) is a diverse group of companies seeking to improve consumers’ experiences with their devices by making the space more open and competitive.
