Sandisk has launched a new generation of portable solid-state drives built for users handling larger files, AI-generated content, and more demanding creative work. The new three-tier lineup spans everyday storage through to high-performance professional use, with the Extreme Portable SSD available now and the rest of the range arriving later this year.

The refreshed portfolio includes the Sandisk Portable SSD, the Sandisk Extreme Portable SSD, and the Sandisk Extreme PRO Portable SSD. Each model targets a different level of performance and workload, from basic backups to multi-stream video editing.

Heidi Arkinstall, Vice President of Consumer Marketing at Sandisk, said, “Whether at home, in the office, or on the go, this new generation of portable SSDs support customers across their storage needs. From everyday users, to creative enthusiasts, to production professionals, the SANDISK portable SSD portfolio balances performance, portability, and durability to give people storage they can depend on as their needs evolve.”

The Sandisk Extreme Portable SSD sits in the middle of the lineup and delivers read speeds of up to 2,000MB/s, nearly twice as fast as its predecessor. Sandisk says it can transfer up to 1,000 high-resolution photos in under 60 seconds, making it a good choice it for photographers, video editors, and users regularly moving large files between devices.

It is currently available in 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB capacities, with a 500GB model expected in the second half of 2026. Pricing starts at $259.99 for the 1TB version, and the drive includes a five-year limited warranty.

Sandisk Extreme PRO

At the top end, the Sandisk Extreme PRO Portable SSD reaches transfer speeds of up to 4,000MB/s. It targets professional photographers, filmmakers, and designers working with high-resolution media and real-time editing workflows.

According to Sandisk, the drive can move up to 10 minutes of 12K video in just under a minute. It will be offered in 2TB and 4TB models, with an 8TB version planned for later in the year, and it also carries a five-year limited warranty.

For everyday users, the Sandisk Portable SSD delivers read speeds of up to 1,000MB/s in a compact form factor. It is intended for students, office workers, and home users who need portable storage for documents, photos, and video libraries.

This model will be available in 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB capacities and comes with a three-year limited warranty. Sandisk projects drop protection of up to two meters for this version.

The Extreme and Extreme PRO models are rated for drops of up to three meters and carry IP65 ratings for resistance to dust and water. Both also include password protection with 256-bit AES hardware encryption.
