Ever since Windows 11 first appeared, people have been begging Microsoft to make the taskbar movable. Now, after endless pleading, people are finally getting what they have asked for.
However, while it seems that Microsoft is giving people exactly what they want, it has not yet been confirmed by the company. Yes, it seems that the Windows 11 taskbar is going to be repositionable, but there is scope for disappointment.
Microsoft has already managed to divide users with its recent focus on stuffing as much AI into its products – including Windows 11 – as possible. Having announced a plan to focus on more of the core issues with the operating system, it is Windows Central that reports on the plans to make the taskbar a movable interface element as it was in previous versions of Windows.
Microsoft aficionado Zac Bowden writes:
I’m told that the Taskbar on Windows 11 will be able to be positioned to the left, right, or top of the display, and the company is working to ensure all the Taskbar flyouts and buttons work as expected when in these alternate orientations. In addition, I understand that Microsoft is also working on the ability to resize the Taskbar, offering users the ability to adjust how much space the Taskbar takes up on screen.
Microsoft has not made an official announcement about this, nor has the company responded to requests for confirmation or denial of the emerging rumors.
Bowden continues:
Sources say that development on these Taskbar capabilities is now underway, and should be unveiled over the summer if plans don’t change. I’m told this Taskbar work is considered a high priority for the Windows team, meaning they are pouring extra resources into it to ensure it ships in a timely manner.
This could mean that it really will not be very long at all before Windows Insiders start to see builds released that include the new Taskbar customization options. It will be the more experimental channels that gain access first as Microsoft works on ironing out any bugs that may emerge.
