Having only recently closed down the Messenger app, Meta is also killing off the web site for the messaging tool. It comes as the company continues its push to reintegrate Messenger into the Facebook web site and app rather than maintaining things separately.

The deadline for cutting off access to messenger.com is quite short. In just a few weeks, the web site will no longer be available, so here is what you need to know about what happens next.

Facebook made the announcement about the closure of messenger.com in a short advisory notice on a support page.

The message appears on the page entitled Messenger.com is no longer available for messaging, and it reads:

Starting April 2026, messenger.com will no longer be available for messaging. The Messenger desktop app is also no longer available. You can use facebook.com/messages to continue messaging on web.

The brief support document goes on to explain that:

After messenger.com goes away, you will be automatically redirected to use facebook.com/messages for messaging on a computer. You can continue your conversations there or on the Messenger mobile app.

If you currently use Messenger without a Facebook account, you can continue your conversations on the Messenger mobile app.

If you need to restore your chat history, Meta says that you can do this on any platform using your PIN.

While for now we are only seeing the announcement on this support document, Meta also intends to issue pop-up reminders to users on both the Messenger web site, and in the Messenger app.
