LabWare and Phizzle Introduce LabWare Loop to Connect Lab Instruments Directly to LIMS

The vendor-agnostic solution moves results from legacy and modern instruments into LabWare sample result records with a verified chain of custody and without manual data handling.

, /PRNewswire/ — LabWare and Phizzle today announced the availability of LabWare Loop, powered by Phizzle, for LabWare customers, available by request as development continues toward commercial availability in early 2027.

LabWare Loop connects multi-vendor scientific instruments directly to LabWare worklists and carries each GxP sample from sampling plan to result in one auditable digital workflow. The workflow supports 21 CFR Part 11, EU Annex 11, and ALCOA+ data integrity principles.

Regulated labs must prove the right instrument produced each result, the data arrived intact, and it populated the correct sample tables. Today, that proof depends on either manual processes or custom integrations. Manual processes, such as paper printouts, manual entry, and USB transfers, create data integrity gaps. Custom per-device integrations add IT overhead and more network endpoints to patch. LabWare Loop replaces both with a single, vendor-agnostic connection that eliminates manual data handling and isolates instruments from the network.

“LabWare has connected laboratories to thousands of instruments and enterprise systems, from chromatography data systems to MES and ERP,” said Kyle Kershner, Co-CEO at LabWare. “LabWare Loop extends that reach to any instrument, legacy or modern, without custom integration work, automatically linking worklists directly to benchtop instruments, thus removing manual transcription from GxP workflows, and with it, a major source of data integrity risk.”

In a LabWare Loop workflow, an operator runs one or more tests based on the LabWare worklist. The Phizzle Edge Puck™ captures the instrument’s data file along with instrument-generated metadata, and Phizzle Connected Plant™ routes the file to LabWare with verifiable lineage and chain of custody. The results then automatically populate the LabWare sample results records. Because the Edge Puck connects via USB, serial, or Ethernet, LabWare Loop works with legacy and modern instruments without firmware changes or requalification.

“Integrating scientific instruments into regulated workflows has historically forced a trade-off between IT security and operational efficiency,” added Ben Davis, CEO of Phizzle. “With LabWare Loop, regulated manufacturers and laboratories can digitize the full sampling lifecycle without exposing benchtop instruments to network threats.”

Benefits span three teams:

  • Laboratory Technicians & Operators shift to review-by-exception. They stop handling data by hand and eliminate the transcription checks that manual data entry requires.
  • QA & Compliance receive a chain of custody verified at every step and an automatically created audit trail that supports 21 CFR Part 11 and EU Annex 11. Because laboratory analysts no longer transcribe results by hand, transcription errors and their subsequent investigations are eliminated.
  • Information Technology onboards every instrument through the same process, whatever its type, make, or model. Air-gapped instruments add no network endpoints to patch, and the integration needs maintenance only when the network, data path, or instrument changes.
