Kingston Technology has announced IronKey Locker+ 50 G2, a new hardware-encrypted USB flash drive that promises secure data storage. The device uses AES 256-bit hardware encryption in XTS mode and includes protection against threats such as BadUSB attacks and brute force password attempts.
The IronKey Locker+ 50 G2 will be available in a choice of capacities ranging from 32GB to 256GB and come with a five-year warranty and technical support from Kingston.

The new drive carries FIPS 197 certification from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and uses AES 256-bit hardware encryption in XTS mode to protect stored data. Digitally signed firmware helps defend against BadUSB attacks, while built-in safeguards limit the risk of brute force password attempts.
The drive supports both Admin and User passwords and offers two password formats. Complex mode requires a password between 6 and 16 characters and must include at least three of four character types, including uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters. Passphrase mode allows longer entries between 10 and 64 characters, which can include sentences, word lists, or other memorable phrases. An administrator can reset the user password if needed to restore access to the data.

A number of protections are built into the authentication system. The user password locks after 10 failed login attempts, while entering the administrator password incorrectly 10 times results in the drive performing a crypto-erase. A virtual keyboard helps protect password entry from keyloggers and screenloggers. The casing also features an anti-fingerprint coating that helps reduce visible wear and surface marks.
Kingston has designed the drive for quick setup and daily use. No software installation is required, meaning you can begin using the drive straight after connecting it. It’s compatible with Windows and macOS, allowing files to be accessed across multiple computers.
“With the LP50G2, the Kingston IronKey line up is all XTS-AES 256-bit hardware-encrypted with a baseline FIPS 197 certification by a NIST authorized lab,” said Kingston’s Oscar Escayola Kaloudis. “In addition, IronKey leads the industry with three best-in-class FIPS 140-3 Level 3 validated drives. This portfolio offers superior data protection solutions designed to meet the specific requirements of consumer, enterprise, and government customers.”
The IronKey Locker+ 50 G2 uses a USB Type-A interface and supports USB 3.2 Gen 1 speeds, with read performance rated at up to 145MB/s and write speeds up to 115MB/s. The drive measures 60.56mm x 18.6mm x 9.6mm and weighs 22.94g. It features a metal and plastic casing in space grey.
