GekoGear has introduced two new body cams — the Aegis 110 and Aegis 400 — aimed at civilians who want to record public encounters hands-free. The devices focus on personal documentation, transparency, and evidence capture, with options ranging from basic 1080p recording to more advanced 4K features, GPS, and Wi-Fi connectivity.

The launch expands body camera options beyond professional and security users, offering tools that allow individuals to record events as they happen in public spaces.

Interest in personal recording tools has grown as demonstrations and public interactions involving enforcement activity continue to make the news, and some people want a continuous record that doesn’t rely on holding a phone.

The Aegis 110 is the simpler option in the lineup, priced at $149.99. It records 1080p Full HD video at 30fps via a 110-degree wide-angle lens, allowing users to capture broad scenes without actively operating a phone. One-touch recording starts capture quickly, which could help when events unfold without warning.

Battery life is rated for up to 10 hours, and loop recording allows the device to overwrite older footage automatically.

Infrared night vision works up to 10ft in darkness, while a built-in flashlight and audio recording support low-light or evening use. The device has an IP65 water-resistant rating, which offers protection against rain and outdoor conditions.

Security features include password protection for recorded files and USB transfer for moving footage to other devices, which could help users share material with legal advisers, journalists, or advocacy groups when needed.

The Aegis 400 steps into higher-end territory at $269.99, offering 4K video recording alongside added connectivity and tracking functions. It includes built-in GPS and Wi-Fi support, allowing app-based control and file management.

The camera also carries an IP67 rating, giving it more resistance to dust and water for outdoor environments.

Storage capacity reaches 128GB onboard, and the camera includes infrared lighting for recording in low light. Like the entry model, files can be password protected to keep footage secure.

The Aegis line was originally developed for professional and security use before being adapted for civilian use.

“Body cameras are no longer limited to police and security professionals,” said Allen Ku, president of Adesso, GekoGear’s parent company. “In today’s environment, everyday people want a practical way to document what they experience, protect their rights, and maintain an objective record, especially during public gatherings or situations where tensions may be high. With Aegis 110 and Aegis 400, we’re giving people options that fit both basic and more advanced needs.”

Both models are designed to clip onto clothing and operate hands-free, making them suited for demonstrations, public observation, or general personal documentation.
